Centennial needed a big fourth quarter to win, 55-44, at El Segundo in the teams’ first meeting Jan. 19. This time, the Apaches used an 18-1 second-quarter run to take a 33-14 halftime lead.

Centennial put the game away with an 8-0 run to open the third quarter.

“Last time we played them, I missed every shot I took,” said Byrd, who missed all 10 shots from the floor and finished with three points in the teams’ previous meeting. “Tonight, my shots were falling.

“This was important because we haven’t been playing any good teams, and they are a good team. They are the kind of team we are going to face in the playoffs.”
