Prosecutors said Thursday that they will seek to try a 15-year-old reputed Pomona gang member as an adult, and filed double-murder charges against him in the deaths of a young man and a widowed mother of three.

The suspect, who was not identified, is expected to appear at a hearing today in Pomona Juvenile Court.

He was arrested Wednesday after a Pomona police officer recognized him as one of two suspects in the Dec. 15 killings of Jose Yanez, 19, and Carmen Leautaud, 53, in an alley near Angela Street. The boy also faces an attempted murder charge involving a male who escaped the shooting unharmed.

Leautaud, a Pomona resident who worked at a local gym with her daughter, was struck by a stray bullet apparently intended for Yanez. Police said the suspects believed that Yanez was a tagger with whom their gang had a dispute.
