Copter Crash Prompts Halt to Moose Airlifts

From Times Wire Reports

The Division of Wildlife Resources has stopped all helicopter animal captures after a crash last week that killed three men.

The decision comes after a Dec. 27 accident in which the helicopter, being used to relocate moose, clipped a power line and crashed into a reservoir in Parleys Canyon about 10 miles outside of Salt Lake City. A review of procedures is expected to begin this month.

In the airlifts, moose are netted and tied, flown to corrals and then trucked to other areas.

Heavy snow this winter has forced moose into lower elevations. The large animals have caused several traffic accidents.
