Bill to Give Unions More Say on Books Dies

An assemblywoman has withdrawn a controversial bill that would have given California teachers unions a greater say over textbook selection, curriculum and other school matters.
Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg (D-Los Angeles) pulled AB 2160 late Thursday after she could not muster enough votes on the Assembly floor.
Administrators, school board groups and Gov. Gray Davis oppose the measure.
