From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Citizens for Safe Drinking Water plan to place a measure on the November ballot so that Redding residents can decide whether the city should add chemicals such as fluoride to the water supply.

The group will present about 7,000 signatures to the city clerk today. It is up against another group, the Shasta Oral Health Task Force, which has lined up $1.1 million in county and foundation money to fund water fluoridation.

The City Council is waiting for fluoridation studies to be completed before voting whether to add the chemical. About one-third of California cities have fluoridated their water supplies, compared with two-thirds nationwide.
