Update--San Jose is halfway to the first undefeated regular season in Arena history. (The best regular-season record since the league went to a 14-game schedule in 1996 is 12-2, which has been done five times.) Lately the SaberCats aren’t just beating teams, they are crushing them. In the last four games San Jose has won by an average of 29.8 points, including last week’s 63-35 drubbing of Buffalo, and the SaberCats are on a record scoring pace of 67.4 points a game. Quarterback Mark Grieb is having an MVP season, completing 145 of 213 passes for 1,930 yards and 43 touchdowns with only two interceptions. But Los Angeles quarterback Tony Graziani is right behind, completing 150 of 247 passes for 1,989 yards and 38 touchdowns with four interceptions. The Avengers, who lost, 78-44, to San Jose on May 11, were defeated last week by Dallas, 62-55. Receiver Greg Hopkins has taken over the team lead in receptions (52), and offensive specialist Chris Jackson leads the league in scoring (128 points), receiving yards (786) and touchdowns (21).
