Budget Plan Provides More Arts Funding
The City Council has adopted the city’s 2002-03 budget after making a change aimed at providing more money for the arts.
At its meeting this week, the City Council, at the urging of Mayor Ray Di Guilio, took $100,000 from the council’s contingency fund and redirected $75,000 to augment grants and fellowships for Ventura artists.
The remaining $25,000 will go to the Ventura County Museum of History and Art.
Council members also considered raising water rates by about 9% and sewage rates by about 12%. The new rates would take effect July 29 if adopted at the council’s next meeting.
The council discussed raising other city fees but did not take action.
Increased fees would provide about $400,000 for the council’s discretionary budget.
The fee increases will be discussed July 22.
