From Times Staff and Wire Reports

City officials this week approved spending $2.1 million to buy the old Oxnard High School and are now crafting a plan for how the facility will be used.

The 33-acre former campus at 5th and H streets now houses several nonprofit groups, including a Police Activities League chapter that hosts youth dances and other after-school events.

Karen Burnham, Oxnard’s assistant city manager, said officials want to work with the groups now on campus and with nearby residents to create a use plan for the property.

The city received state approval in December to buy the site from the Oxnard Union High School District for $2.1 million, about half its $4-million appraised value.
