A 3-year-old girl was critically injured and two adults were wounded when a gunman opened fire on their vehicle Friday night on the Pomona Freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Three other children, ages 6, 7 and 8, and two other adults were riding in a blue van when two men in a beige van opened fire, according to Det. Steve Mills.

The beige van had followed the victims’ van south on Hacienda Boulevard and then onto the freeway about 11:15 p.m., Mills said. As the two vehicles headed east, at least one of the men in the beige van began shooting, the detective said.

The 3-year-old, who was shot in the back, was in stable condition Saturday at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Her mother, who was also shot in the back, is in stable condition at County-USC Medical Center. A man who was shot in the hand was treated and released.

After the shooting, the attackers continued east on the freeway, Mills said. No arrests have been made.
