Tennessee Receiver Is Out

Tennessee sophomore receiver Kelley Washington is out indefinitely while recovering from a concussion and his college career could be over.

Washington, who nearly entered the NFL draft last winter, is Tennessee’s leading receiver with 23 catches for 443 yards, despite playing only four games.

Tennessee will also be without defensive linemen Demetrin Veal (calf) and Ed Kendrick (shin) today against South Carolina.

The fight between Washington State linebacker Ira Davis and cornerback Jason David was over a woman, according to the Seattle Times. Davis has been suspended and David suffered three fractures to his right cheekbone and will be out up to six weeks. The paper said Davis became upset after a woman he had been dating told him that David had been making advances toward her. The woman has since acknowledged that David did not make advances after all. The Cougars have other problems. Receiver Mike Bush (sprained ankle) is expected to play today against Arizona State, but receiver Collin Henderson (collarbone) will only hold for kicks. Receiver Scott Lunde (broken vertebra, lower back) is out, and linebacker Al Genatone is battling flu.... Wyoming receiver and team captain Ryan McGuffey was suspended indefinitely after being charged with drunken driving.... Oregon State is planning an expansion of Reser Stadium from its current capacity of 35,362 to 43,000, with a long-range goal of increasing capacity to 55,000.... A fire at Memphis’ Murphy Athletic Complex destroyed an indoor practice facility. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
