Review Board Clears Officers in Man’s Shooting
A police review board has ruled that two Burbank officers were justified in shooting and wounding an armed parolee during a traffic stop.
The ruling issued Monday by a Burbank police shooting inquiry board clears the officers in the Sept. 21 shooting of Carl Strunk, 22, of Burbank.
Strunk is being held without bail pending arraignment Dec. 19 on two counts each of attempted murder of a police officer, assault with a deadly weapon and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Officers Chris Canales, 34, and Fernando Munoz, 30, had stopped a car containing Strunk and three others when Strunk allegedly drew a handgun and tried to shoot the officers. Canales and Munoz opened fire, hitting Strunk several times. No one else was injured.
Strunk had two handguns and fired one shot at the officers, police said.
