Lutheran quarterback Casey Whieldon threw five touchdown passes to Anthony Vernaglia, four in the first half. Kennedy’s Robert Becker threw for five touchdowns and 419 yards on 29-for-45 passing.

13 Combined fumbles by Anaheim and Santa Ana Century in the rain during Anaheim’s 31-6 Orange League victory. Anaheim lost two of four fumbles and Century lost three of nine.

21 Seasons that Placentia Valencia has qualified for the playoffs in Mike Marrujo’s 22 years as coach. The Tigers clinched a playoff berth with a 21-0 Empire League victory over Anaheim Katella, as running back Rylon Thomas gained 207 yards and scored two touchdowns.

100 Yards that Palos Verdes Chadwick’s Dennis Webber returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. The Dolphins hoped the big play would help end an 18-game losing streak in the Prep League, but Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep emerged with a 39-16 victory.

BIG WINNERS

* Garden Grove Rancho Alamitos running back Tai Asoau tied an Orange County single-game record with seven rushing touchdowns in the Vaqueros’ 49-6 Garden Grove League victory over Garden Grove. Asoau had touchdown runs of one, 13, six, eight, three, 25 and four yards, equaling the mark set by Paul Caffrey of Anaheim Heritage Christian (now Fullerton Eastside Christian) in 1997. Asoau finished with 201 yards in 30 carries.

* Santa Fe Springs St. Paul running back Dwight Tardy rushed for 248 yards and four touchdowns in 20 carries during the Swordsmen’s 34-6 Mission League victory over Mission Hills Alemany. Tardy scored on runs of 10, 47, 59 and 65 yards.

* Laguna Beach tailback Donelle Darling broke Jonathan Todd’s school rushing record by rushing for 100 yards during the Breakers’ 21-7 victory over Mission Viejo Tesoro. Darling has 1,264 yards this season.

* Tustin running backs Marquis Malcolm, Eric Lover and Terrel Harris each rushed for more than 100 yards in the Tillers’ 50-0 Century League victory over Placentia El Dorado. Malcolm finished with 144 yards, Harris had 120 and Lover had 111 as Tustin rolled up 499 yards rushing.

UPSETS

* Santa Margarita defeated then-No. 5 Santa Ana Mater Dei, 19-0. Ashton White returned from a two-game absence caused by a knee injury to rush for 77 yards and two touchdowns to help the Eagles keep their playoff hopes alive.

* La Verne Bonita defeated then-No. 17 Covina Charter Oak, 14-7. Tommy Musa’s 67-yard interception return and a blocked punt by Cody Maldanado accounted for the Bearcats’ points.

* La Puente Bishop Amat defeated then-No. 19 L.A. Loyola, 21-7. Chris Seals rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown and Andrew Soto had 81 yards for the Lancers.
