Ex-Prosecutor Guilty of Altering DMV Check

A former Orange County prosecutor has pleaded guilty to forgery and grand theft in connection with the alteration of a $15 rebate from the state Department of Motor Vehicles to a check for more than $150,000, authorities said.

Sean Regan Stafford could get six years when sentenced Jan. 24. Stafford, 42, deposited the check April 19, 2001.

Stafford already had resigned from the district attorney’s office after an arrest for drunk driving and resisting officers. He was sentenced to three years’ probation and ordered to attend alcohol counseling classes.
