Mitzi Grasso to Resign as Head of Police Union
The president of a union representing the Los Angeles Police Department’s more than 8,000 officers will step down at the end of the year, officials said Thursday.
Mitzi Grasso, who has served as the Los Angeles Police Protective League’s president for two years, will be replaced by Bob Baker, the organization’s vice president.
Baker downplayed the change, saying that it was sought by Grasso, who wants to spend more time with her family. She will continue to serve on the executive board as a vice president, Baker said.
The change comes as William J. Bratton prepares to take over as police chief Oct. 28. Grasso has been an outspoken supporter of Bratton.
