Brett Favre hobbled off the field, leaving the Green Bay Packers to wonder how long they might be without their star quarterback.

Favre, who started for the 164th consecutive time Sunday, suffered a sprained left knee when he was sacked by LaVar Arrington in Green Bay’s 30-9 victory over the Washington Redskins.

“There’s some swelling but not a lot of it. It appears like he’s going to be OK,” Packer Coach Mike Sherman said. “There was a lot of concern by us on the sideline, but it appears he’ll be fine. We’re going ... see [today] if there’s more swelling, and we’ll go from there.”

Favre, at age 33 the NFC’s leading passer, came out in the third quarter and did not return.

The Packers are off next week and don’t play again until Nov. 4 against Miami.

Ahman Green had the first three-touchdown rushing performance of his NFL career, helping the Packers (6-1) to their fifth consecutive victory.

Green ran for 88 yards in 24 carries and scored on runs of 24, two and eight yards, the last one after Redskin rookie quarterback Patrick Ramsey’s fifth sack and third fumble, which was recovered by Rod Walker at the Washington 23-yard line in the fourth quarter.

In the second start of his career, Ramsey overthrew his targets all afternoon and the Redskins (2-4) managed only three field goals by James Tuthill. Ramsey completed 10 of 24 passes for 135 yards. He was sacked six times.

Favre finished 11 for 14 for 89 yards and was carted off to a standing ovation from the crowd of 63,363 at Lambeau Field with Green Bay ahead, 17-6.

Doug Pederson, who replaced Favre, was nine for 15 for 78 yards, leading the Packers to two field goals and one touchdown in five series.

Entering the game, Favre led the NFC in passer rating (102.5), yards passing (1,617) and touchdown passes (14). His 164 consecutive starts are an NFL record for quarterbacks and the longest current streak in the league at any position.

This was the fourth time during the streak that Favre didn’t complete the game because of injury.
