Four men remained hospitalized Monday after what La Habra police suspect was a gang-related melee in which seven people were stabbed.

The Sunday night incident capped a weekend of violence beginning with an apparently unrelated altercation Friday night that involved about 20 people at Fountain Valley’s Boomers!, an amusement park with miniature golf and video games. Four people suffered minor cuts in that incident, authorities said.

As many as 25 people took part in the La Habra brawl, which began about 7:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Grace Avenue, a working-class neighborhood of compact homes and neatly trimmed lawns. An investigation is continuing into the cause of the fight.

Seven people ranging in age from 15 to 29 sought medical treatment, La Habra Police spokeswoman Cindy Knapp said.

Three were released, and the four who were hospitalized are expected to recover.

“This is quite unusual,” Knapp said of the incident. “We don’t normally see these kinds of extensive injuries. We periodically have flare-ups [of gang violence], and this certainly would qualify. The motivation still remains to be discovered. We are working nonstop to try and resolve this and get to the bottom of it.”

No arrests have been made in the case, Knapp said, and the names of the injured were being withheld to avoid retaliation. “We’re concerned about having this escalate any further.”

The Friday night incident at Boomers!, in the 16800 block of Magnolia Avenue, also was under investigation, Fountain Valley police said.
