Timber Firm Sells Land to Trust for Preservation
California’s largest timber company has sold two more tracts of land to a trust that plans to preserve thousands of acres across the Sierra Nevada.
Sierra Pacific Industries, based in Redding, says it’s selling 1,280 acres along the north fork of the American River and 628 acres at Barker Pass, along the Pacific Coast Trail near the Granite Chief Wilderness.
The two tracts were sold to the nonprofit Trust for Public Land for about $2.87 million. Congress approved most of the funding for the purchases through the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
