A man was killed and four people were seriously injured Tuesday evening when a driver being chased by police ran a red light in Montclair and collided with a pickup truck, authorities said.

The chase began in Pomona at about 7 p.m. when police were told that a van driver was trying to run people over and driving onto lawns, police said.

Officers began pursuing the van when its driver, identified as Moises Perez Carreon, 38, of El Monte, refused to stop. The chase went into Montclair in San Bernardino County. Carreon, who alternately slowed to a near stop and sped up again, was going west on Mission Boulevard when he ran a red light at Ramona Street, Montclair police said.
