TEAMS ON THE RISE

* Woodland Hills Taft. The Toreadors (17-4), who are in first place in the West Valley League, will receive a boost this week when forward Dwight Grant and center Ronnel Ramsey return after being academically ineligible earlier in the season.

* Riverside King. The defending Southern Section Division II-A champion Wolves (16-6), who sputtered in the early stages of the season, are 6-0 in the Sunkist League.

LOOKING AHEAD

* Westchester plays nationally top-ranked Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary at 4:30 p.m. PST Saturday in Trenton, N.J. Whether St. Vincent-St. Mary star LeBron James will play after being declared ineligible last week for compromising his amateur status remains unknown. James may appeal the Ohio High School Athletic Assn.’s decision and could file a temporary restraining order in an attempt to keep playing.
