Where: Long Beach Pyramid
Schedule: Morning session -- Westminster vs. Anaheim Servite, 8:30 a.m.; Bellflower St. John Bosco vs. Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley, 10 a.m.; Los Angeles Verbum Dei vs. Huntington Beach Ocean View, 11:30 a.m. Evening session -- Glendora vs. Fountain Valley, 1:30 p.m.; Villa Park vs. Las Vegas Durango, 3 p.m.; Fullerton Troy vs. Santa Margarita, 4:30 p.m.; Crenshaw vs. Brea Olinda, 6 p.m.; Long Beach Poly vs. Concord De La Salle, 7:30 p.m.; Santa Ana Mater Dei vs. Miami Christian, 9 p.m.
At stake: Mater Dei attempts to rebound from a loss to top-ranked Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary against Miami Christian, another nationally ranked team. Miami Christian is making its second appearance in Southern California in nearly a week, having lost to Fairfax, 60-50, Jan. 3 in the California Hoops Challenge at Lynwood High.
The best local matchup of the day pits Ocean View, No. 14 in The Times' Southland rankings, against No. 15 Verbum Dei. Fifth-ranked Brea Olinda, led by Stanford-bound forward Evan Moore, plays No. 24 Crenshaw in another intriguing game. Long Beach Poly, which was soundly beaten by Concord De La Salle in football during the fall, gets a chance to avenge that defeat on the hardwood, though the Jackrabbits have struggled to stay above .500 in Coach Ron Palmer's final season.
Tickets: The morning session is $8. The evening session is $20 for reserved seats, $10 for general admission. Tickets are available at the Pyramid box office. Parking is $3.
