Fire Outside Yosemite Is Declared Contained
Firefighters contained a 458-acre blaze Friday outside Yosemite National Park.
Debbie Santiago, a Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman, said the containment occurred after several crews of so-called hotshots arrived from Alaska and elsewhere in California. Hotshots are firefighters specifically trained to battle wildfires in rough terrain.
More than 700 firefighters fought the blaze, called the Woodlot fire, which started in a wood storage lot Tuesday afternoon near El Portal, a small town about two miles from Yosemite’s entrance.
