Police Fish DUI Suspect Out of Ocean
A suspected drunk driver was rescued from the ocean off Seal Beach on Friday after he dived in to escape police, officials said.
Jose Luis Calders, 22, of Lakewood was treated for hypothermia then arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, and evading police.
An unidentified passenger was treated for minor injuries and released.
Police said they tried to stop Calders about 2:40 a.m. on Los Alamitos Boulevard, but he drove off, starting a 25-minute chase that ended when he rammed a parked car at Ocean and Electric avenues, then he jumped into the ocean.
