Family of Man Killed by Truck Sues Oxnard
The family of an Oxnard laborer who was fatally hit by a trash truck filed a wrongful death lawsuit Monday against the city.
Jayantilal Patel, 43, was killed Dec. 20 while walking in a crosswalk on 5th Street on his way to work. In the lawsuit filed in Ventura County Superior Court, Patel’s family contends the truck driver was looking in another direction and failed to see the victim crossing in accordance with a green light.
The driver, who was not named, accelerated to make a right turn and struck Patel, who worked several jobs to support his wife and two children, said the Patels’ attorney, Ron Bamieh.
The attorney representing the city of Oxnard was unavailable for comment.
The lawsuit claims negligence by the truck driver caused Patel’s death and seeks unspecified damages for everything from funeral expenses to loss of income.
