Fullerton Troy won its first boys’ tennis title by beating Palm Desert, 11-7, in the Southern Section Division II final Wednesday at The Claremont Club.

Palm Desert (23-2) mixed up its doubles lineup, which gave Troy (29-3) fits. Vince Karlen and Chase Oliphant of Palm Desert pulled off a 6-3 victory over brothers Edwin and Edward Mendoza, breaking the Mendozas’ service at 3-3 and dominating the rest of the set.

But the Mendozas recovered. After Troy’s No. 1 singles player, Jeff Das, put the Warriors ahead, 9-4, with a 6-2 victory over Jordan Colman on Center Court, the Mendozas put Troy over the hump with a 7-5 victory over Mike Sindoni and Kellan Webb.

Troy won seven of nine singles sets.

Palm Desert, which won the Division III title a year ago, tied Troy in sets, 9-9, earlier this season, but won on games, 75-73.
