Huntington Beach lifeguards resumed the search Saturday for an El Monte teenager presumed drowned after he went into the ocean during high surf and dangerous rip currents Friday.
The search for Roy Ken Lee, 18, resumed at 6 a.m. and, despite choppy seas that made visibility difficult, did not end until 3 p.m., said Lt. Mike Baumgartner, a marine safety officer for the city.
Despite the heavy rain, relatives and friends of Lee, including his girlfriend, kept a vigil near lifeguard Tower 17 off Beach Boulevard and later at the lifeguard headquarters.
