Symons, Rislov Pass for 7 TDs

Seven was the lucky number Saturday for two quarterbacks.

Texas Tech’s B.J. Symons and San Jose State’s Scott Rislov each passed for seven touchdowns in leading their teams to victory.

Symons played only 2 1/2 quarters and threw for 428 yards as the Red Raiders (7-3, 4-2 Big 12) routed Baylor, 62-14, at Waco, Texas. It was his fifth game with at least five touchdowns, pushing his NCAA-leading season total to 44.

Three of Rislov’s seven scoring passes were to Courtney Anderson as the Spartans (3-6, 2-4 Western Athletic) crushed Texas El Paso, 69-41, at El Paso.

Rislov completed 28 of 39 passes with no interceptions. He had 461 yards and scoring passes of 48, 25, nine, 58, 66 and six yards as San Jose State took a 48-20 halftime lead. He added a 26-yard score in the fourth quarter.

Rislov was on pace to break the NCAA record of 716 passing yards set in 1990 by Houston’s David Klingler. But the Spartans had a comfortable lead and Rislov didn’t get the necessary attempts.
