From Staff Reports

Santa Ana Calvary Chapel will be making a rare appearance at the Ayala wrestling tournament in Chino Hills on Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles have been to the tournament only one other time since its inception. Calvary Chapel, Ayala and Laguna Hills are the only teams from The Times’ top-ten rankings participating at the tournament.

“We usually head to Doc Buchanan [tournament] at Clovis high school the second week in January before heading to Five Counties [at Fountain Valley],” Calvary Chapel Coach Josh Holiday said. “This way, the kids get some time off between tournaments and I think that’s the better way to go. Five Counties is really tough and I want my kids fresh for that.”

Coach Mark Lehman says he has six players -- Shannee Green, Lynette Jacobs, Jatarra Pryor, Marie Andrade, Amber Green and Desiree Brown -- capable of starting so, “I ask for a volunteer to sit out [of the starting lineup] every game, and they do. They take turns.”
