From Times Staff Reports

San Clemente High won its sixth National Interscholastic Championship -- and third in a row -- recently at Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point. The top-seeded Tritons defeated Huntington Beach, 151-107, in the National Scholastic Surfing Assn. event.

Patrick Gudauskas and Colleen Mehlberg of San Clemente each finished first in the high school boys’ and girls’ competitions.

Mira Costa College in Oceanside edged San Diego State, 87-83, to win the college title.

Dane Gudauskas, Patrick’s twin, and 11-year-old surfing phenom Carissa Moore of Honolulu won the NSSA National Open men’s and women’s divisions at Lower Trestles in San Clemente.

Cameron Beaulac and Pat Noyes stood on opposite sidelines as their respective high school boys’ teams battled for the Moore League title this winter, but this fall, the two will be working together as co-coaches of the men’s team at Long Beach College. Neither is giving up his high school job.

Beaulac guided Long Beach Poly to a 14-5-3 overall record and a tie for the league title with Long Beach Cabrillo this winter.

For Noyes’ Jaguars, who finished 21-5-1 overall, it was the first league title in any sport for the five-year-old school.

Beaulac had the upper-hand, however, as Poly defeated Cabrillo twice this season. Both teams lost in the first round of the Southern Section Division I playoffs.

The coaches are replacing Mauricio Ingrassia, who will take over the women’s program at Long Beach State.
