SOUTHERN SECTION

Lakewood (10-1) vs. Los Angeles Loyola (9-2) at Glendale High, 7:30 p.m., Friday

Don’t be surprised if neither team reaches the end zone more than once in this Division I quarterfinal. Lakewood has allowed only 91 points total and no more than 22 in a game. Loyola, the defending champion, has given up just under 10 points a game. Lakewood, led by standout linebackers Luthur Brown and Adrian McCovey, must contain quarterback Casey Frost, who rushed for 117 yards and threw for 163 in the Cubs’ 28-14 first-round victory over Huntington Beach Edison. In turn, Lakewood’s offense must be able to move the chains and win field position.

Los Alamitos (10-1) at La Puente Bishop Amat (6-5), 7:30 p.m., Friday

Willie Wagner rushed for 202 yards and scored three times as Bishop Amat defeated Redlands, 34-16, in the first round of the Division I playoffs. The bad news is that Los Alamitos isn’t Redlands, and against teams the caliber of the second-seeded Griffins -- Valencia, Loyola and Santa Ana Mater Dei -- Bishop Amat is 0-3. Los Alamitos has allowed more than 13 points only once over the last nine weeks.

Mission Viejo (11-0) vs. Newhall Hart (7-4) at College of the Canyons, 7:30 p.m., Friday

It’s payback time for unbeaten Mission Viejo, which had a 41-game win streak ended in the Southern Section Division II final last season by Hart, 25-7. The Diablos have been on a season-long mission to make amends. Their offensive and defensive lines have dominated. Hart’s big challenge is to avoid mistakes if it expects to be competitive. The Indians have committed 15 turnovers in their four defeats. Hart has some optimism in that the Indians have given up only two touchdowns to Mission Viejo in their last two meetings. But no team has consistently tackled Diablo running back Chane Moline, who has scored 27 touchdowns this season.

Chino (10-1) at San Clemente (9-2), 7:30 p.m., Friday

Chino has averaged 35.4 points and hasn’t allowed more than 24 points to any opponent. Three games against opponents with at least six wins (two in the Sierra League) have been decided by three points or fewer. The third-seeded Cowboys have been tough when they get the ball deep and turn it over to goal-line specialist Shawn Oatis. San Clemente looked terrible in its 48-0 loss to Mission Viejo, and was so-so in a season-ending victory over Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley, but last week gained a school-record 573 yards and scored on eight of its 11 possessions in a 52-7 victory over Saugus in a Division II first-round game.

Murrieta Valley (8-2-1) at Corona Centennial (10-1), 7:30 p.m., Friday

After a Week 1 loss to Long Beach Poly, Centennial has been on a roll. The Huskies, Division V semifinalists last year, scored more than 40 points for the fifth consecutive game last week and have averaged 41.8 points this season. Running back Brandon Minor has 2,199 rushing yards and 38 touchdowns. Last week, he rushed for five touchdowns in a 42-7 first-round victory over Riverside Arlington. Murrieta Valley has a five-game win streak and victories in eight of its last nine. The Nighthawks, led by linebackers Chad Hansen and Sam Lathan and defensive back Matt Lahti, have allowed only 13.8 points a game.
