County Is Short of Bilingual Poll Workers
With just one month until the Nov. 2 election, San Diego County needs hundreds more bilingual poll workers in order to uphold a Justice Department mandate that the county better serve its voters with limited English skills.
The county agreed in June to provide 1,278 poll workers who speak Spanish, Tagalog or Vietnamese. So far, the county has recruited a little more than half that number, according to county officials.
“We know that there are larger numbers that we are shooting for in this election,” county spokesman Michael Workman said.
“If we need to go to the public again, we will do that at the beginning of next week,” he said.
