Los Angeles County sheriff’s rescue teams searched for a third day Monday in Angeles National Forest for a missing 33-year-old ski resort caretaker, authorities said.

A neighbor last saw Todd Brugger leaving on foot from his Mt. Waterman home Friday evening and became concerned when he did not return, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Stefanie Fredericks. Authorities began a search Saturday.

“The weather has been cooperative so far,” Fredericks said, “It hasn’t been too cold or hot.”

The dawn-to-dusk search has covered a 17-square-mile area on the mountaintop, she said. The fourth day of the search is expected to be joined by sheriff’s rescue teams from Orange, San Bernardino and Ventura counties, she said.

Brugger has lived on the mountain off Angeles Crest Highway for four years and does not own a car, Fredericks said.

“He literally travels those mountains by foot,” she said. “It’s not unusual for him to go walking.”

Brugger is a caretaker for Mt. Waterman Ski Resort, she said, but little is known about him, which has thwarted efforts to contact family members.
