County Names Head of Probation Department
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has appointed an in-house 30-year veteran probation officer to take over as head of the county’s $500-million Probation Department.
Paul Higa, who is currently the interim chief, joined the department as a probation officer in 1975 after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UCLA.
He will oversee 5,200 employees and succeed Richard Shumsky, who retired in November.
