Rain Is Expected Through Evening

Sporadic rain showers were expected throughout Southern California today as a Pacific storm system moved rapidly inland before dawn.

The National Weather Service said the rainfall should generally be moderate, with up to a half-inch in the coastal valleys and about an inch along the foothills. There probably won’t be enough rain to trigger mudslides on hillsides stripped bare by wildfires, the weather service said.

Brisk winds were forecast in the mountains and deserts, with gusts up to 40 mph.

The weather service said the rain should taper off by tonight, with partly cloudy skies and high temperatures mostly in the upper 60s and low 70s through the weekend.
