Michigan State drew a school-record crowd of 14,066 for a women’s game and turned the energy into one of the program’s biggest victories.

Kristin Haynie’s two free throws with 5.4 seconds left Sunday led the No. 9-ranked Spartans to a 66-64 victory over No. 2 Ohio State at East Lansing, Mich. The victory vaulted Michigan State (24-3, 13-2 Big Ten) into a tie with Penn State for first place in the conference, a half game ahead of the Buckeyes (25-3, 12-2). The Spartans haven’t won a share of the Big Ten title since 1996-97. Michigan State also broke the school record for wins in a season set in 1976-77.

“It was a shocker when they rushed out and jumped on us,” Haynie, who finished with 19 points, said of the fans, who began filling up the arena two hours before the game and spilled onto the court after the win. “That was great support.”
