From Times Staff Reports

Junior Darby Anderson of Santa Margarita and seniors Kami Craig of Santa Barbara and Lauren Silver of Long Beach Wilson have been invited to join six returning U.S. Olympians and a host of college players from Southland universities on a 34-player U.S. women’s senior national water polo team roster selected by new U.S. women’s Coach Bill Barnett.

Barnett, who has coached at Newport Harbor High since 1966 and headed the U.S. men’s national team from 1985 to 1992, replaced Guy Baker in March after Baker became the men’s coach.

Anderson, Craig and Silver each were selected to The Times’ All-Star girls’ water polo team this season.

For the second time this month, vandals have shredded outfield tarps at Chatsworth High, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Coach Tom Meusborn said the team is offering a $500 reward for information about who is responsible.

Those with information can call the school police at (818) 341-6211.

Apple Valley Christian dedicated its home field Thursday in honor of Billy Mortimore, the team’s batting coach from 2002 to 2004 before dying of brain cancer in July. His son, Johnny Mortimore, threw a complete game and hit a two-run home run in a 9-2 victory over Victor Valley Christian.

Some Southland streaks that recently ended:

* La Canada won the Rio Hondo League for the first time since 1980. The Spartans avenged an earlier loss to San Marino and clinched the title outright by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-6 victory Thursday.
