Man Charged With USC Computer Hacking
A computer network administrator has been charged with hacking into a USC computer system last year, an intrusion that prompted the university to alert 275,000 applicants and others that confidential information may have been compromised.
Eric McCarty, 25, of San Diego was named in a federal criminal complaint charging him with knowingly transmitting a code or command to intentionally cause damage to USC’s online application system.
He is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on April 28. If convicted, McCarty would face a maximum sentence of 10 years.
