Grammy bash stops traffic

Among the Grammy-week activities was the mondo-bash tossed by Verizon Wireless on Monday at a closed-off Hollywood and Vine, where thousands of party people were treated to a Fugees reunion. Among the revelers who showed up for the post-party -- a midnight set by Kanye West at Avalon -- were Paris Hilton, Tom Cruise, Britney Spears and hubby Kevin Federline, Joaquin Phoenix and the Simpson sisters.... The Black Eyed Peas’ shindig Monday at the Henry Fonda Theatre brought out such sporty revelers as USC’s Matt Leinert and Reggie Bush, as well as Green Bay Packer Ahman Green.... The Roots’ third annual pre-Grammy jam session, held on Tuesday at the Key Club, included performances by Fall Out Boy, Common, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu and Snoop Dogg -- not to mention co-host Dave Chappelle’s spoof of an R. Kelly song.... Clubland kingpin Michael Sutton is multi-tasking. The promoter just launched his own marketing company, and among the bashes he’s hyping is “The British Beat,” a Heart Foundation benefit at the Palladium on March 11 with multiple U.K. cover bands. In addition, Sutton, a partner in such venues as the Lodge and Memphis, is planning to open more supper clubs. Among them: Goa (1624 Cahuenga Blvd.), aiming for a fall opening, and Charcoal (corner of Sunset and Ivar), due in August. Also in the works for late 2007 is Asia, a high-end Pacific Rim-themed spot on Hollywood Boulevard.

Safari Sam’s opening delayed

This just in: Safari Sam’s, the new club at 5214 Sunset Blvd., won’t be able to open tonight as scheduled due to construction delays and lack of city approval. The club’s owners were scrambling Wednesday to find a new venue for tonight’s bill featuring Sex Pistols and Ramones tribute bands. The Kiss or Kill promotion Friday has been canceled, and Sam’s is now targeting Tuesday’s Valentine’s Ball as its opening night. Owners say they will post updated show info at www.myspace.com/safarisamsclub.... Promoter BoJesse Christopher launches two new dance clubs on Friday: the Garage at Privilege on the Strip and Panaramic at Cinespace in Hollywood. The Garage features DJ Morty spinning tunes from the ‘80s; Panaramic is a mix of indie rock and hip-hop.... System of a Down, Hoobastank and members of KISS partied down at the Agoura Hills hotspot Chapter 8 over the weekend.... Ben Harper got his kicks at the Mint on Pico on Friday, when he performed with pal Tom Freund.... Famed hostess Constance (Bar Marmont/Monroe’s/Tropicana) can now be found at Dale’s Lost Highway, Palm Spring’s newest enclave. Think American bistro with old-school Hollywood glamour.
