Alejandro Moreno scored on a breakaway goal in the 84th minute to clinch the Houston Dynamo’s 3-1 victory over Chivas USA on Saturday.

Moreno took the ball from 30 yards away, dribbled in and scored from 15 yards out into the left side. Houston is unbeaten in its last eight games, including five ties.

The victory at Robertson Stadium helped Houston hold on to second place in the Western Conference of the MLS, just ahead of Chivas USA. The game was delayed 46 minutes because of lightning in the area.

Brian Mullan’s goal from 12 yards out in the 64th minute put the Dynamo ahead to stay. Chivas goalkeeper Preston Burpo came 15 yards out to try to stop Mullan’s advance.

But Burpo missed the ball during a slight collision, Mullan recovered and tapped it easily into an open goal.

The score was tied, 1-1, at the half. Ante Razov scored from 22 yards out in the eighth minute to give Chivas an early lead. It was the 11th goal for Razov, who leads the league in scoring.

Dynamo forward Brian Ching, the league’s third-leading scorer, took a rebound shot and kicked it in from five yards out in the 19th minute to tie the score.

It was Ching’s ninth goal of the season and second since he returned from playing for the U.S. national team in the World Cup three weeks ago.
