Temple ends losing streak at 20 games

For the second consecutive week, the nation’s longest Division I losing streak ended.

Temple ended a 20-game skid Saturday with a 28-14 victory over Bowling Green for its first victory since Nov. 13, 2004.

Last week, Indiana State, a Division I-AA school, ended a 24-game losing streak with a 28-22 victory over Missouri State. That left Temple, a Division I-A squad, with the longest losing streak in Division I.

“It is a big thing for us,” quarterback Adam DiMichele said. “People are excited, but you can’t stop here. You can’t get too complacent. We are looking forward to a few more this year.”

The Owls (1-8) had been outscored, 351-71, in their first eight games, and given up 62 points or more three times. Saturday’s victory was made sweeter by revenge. Bowling Green had defeated Temple, 70-7, last season.

“I’m not too excited about being the team that broke the streak, but it was going to happen, anyway,” Bowling Green Coach Gregg Brandon said.

Duke, with 16 consecutive losses, now has the longest losing streak in Division I.
