Woman mauled to death by pit bulls
A 45-year-old woman was mauled to death Tuesday by three roving pit bulls outside Barstow, authorities said.
Kelly Lynn Caldwell was found lying unconscious with multiple dog bites at 9:30 p.m., not far from her home in Yermo, said Cindy Beavers, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
A witness told deputies that Caldwell was attacked by three loose pit bulls. As authorities treated Caldwell at the scene, the three dogs returned.
One was shot and killed when it became aggressive toward deputies, Beavers said. Caldwell was taken to Barstow Community Hospital and died a short time later, the coroner’s office said.
