UC Irvine (4-7) at South Carolina (6-5), 7:30 p.m. -- Anteaters center Darren Fells is shooting 62.9% from the field, which leads the Big West Conference, but Irvine has lost six of its last eight and is 0-6 away from home. Devan Downey averages 18.4 points and 5.4 assists for South Carolina, which lost at UC Irvine last season.

Cal State Fullerton (6-3) vs. Furman (0-10) at Moraga, Calif., 5 p.m. -- The Titans will play two games in the Shamrock Classic at St. Mary’s in their final tune-up before Big West play begins. They are averaging 84 points a game. Furman is shooting only 41% from the field.

Long Beach State (3-6) at California (7-2), 5 p.m. -- 49ers guard Donovan Morris was named Big West player of the week after scoring a career-high 26 points in a victory over San Francisco. The 49ers have won two of their last three heading into the Golden Bear Classic.

Cal State Northridge (7-3) at Utah Valley State (5-8), 6 p.m. -- This is a rematch of a 76-64 Matadors victory Dec. 5. Since then, Northridge has lost two out of three, with the only victory coming against NAIA Vanguard. The Matadors lead the Big West in field-goal defense, holding opponents to 41.9% shooting.

Pacific 10 Conference

USC (7-4) at Arizona (6-5), 1 p.m. -- USC had five players score in double figures in the two games in last week’s Women of Troy Classic. The Trojans have won their last five games against Arizona and take a three-game winning streak into the conference opener. The Wildcats are led by Ashley Whisonant (14.6 points a game), Ify Ibekwe (11.6) and Amina Njonkou (11.3). Ibekwe, a freshman from Narbonne, sat out the last two games because of an eye injury.

UCLA (5-6) at Arizona State (6-5), 5:30 p.m. -- The Bruins open Pac-10 play as the top-scoring team in the conference at 74.5 points a game and second-best in three-point shooting accuracy (37%). UCLA had five players averaging in double figures a month ago, but now it’s down to two: Lindsey Pluimer (14.5) and Nina Earl (10.5). The Sun Devils are coming off a 62-51 loss to No. 19 Texas on Dec. 20 but have won 25 of their last 27 conference games. Briann January, a junior guard for the Sun Devils, scored a career-high 22 points against Texas.
