Two injuries, one bad liar

Can somebody please tell Vladimir Radmanovic that snowboarding isn’t so easy that a caveman can do it?

So this is what we know so far about Vladimir Radmanovic: He’s injury prone, dishonest, a space cadet and a below-average snowboarder. Oh, and he’s also not a very valuable basketball player.

This is what happens when you give $30 million to someone because he had one hot-shooting stretch with the Clippers in the playoffs.

The recipe for Lakers success: Take Vlad Radmanovic’s $30-million deal and void it for snowboarding. Free up the money, bake it in a cake, and present it to Kevin Garnett this summer. Then stand back and watch Lakers fans feast at the June ’08 title parade.

As for Kwame Brown? Let him throw cake.

J.A. Adande’s article on March 1, about Shaun Livingston’s injury and the resulting economic impact, was another great reminder of sportswriters’ often myopic view of the world. Adande said that it “hurts just writing” that Livingston may lose $40 million as a result of the injury. Shaun Livingston is apparently a nice young man who suffered a terrible sports injury, and because of that he is deserving of our sympathy.

However, he also is a 21-year-old multimillionaire who will earn over $14 million during the life of his guaranteed contract, including next year when he probably won’t play. The average wage earner in the United States would need to work approximately 350 years to match Livingston’s four-year salary.

Perhaps I’m way off base, but you just get the feeling that Mr. Adande doesn’t worry about the “average” people quite as much as he does about the athletes he so clearly adores.

Shaun Livingston is a poster child for going to college. His injury is unfortunate, but the fact is, he never should have been in the NBA to begin with. His body needed three to four years to mature after high school. He’d be a star at Duke, not a fixture on the injured list.

After Shaun Livingston suffered a season-ending injury, Sam Cassell declared that he was ready to fill “the Livingston void.” Before doing that, Sam might want to fill “the Cassell void” that has plagued the Clippers all season.
