SOUTHERN SECTION

Inland Division: Corona Centennial (13-0) at Temecula Chaparral (12-1), 7:30

Top-seeded Centennial, hoping to secure a spot in a state bowl game, either in the open division or Division I, has outscored its opponents 141-38 in the playoffs. Chaparral is seeking its first section title. When these teams met in September, Chaparral had the ball inside the Centennial 20-yard line with a chance to take the lead late in the game before an errant snap moved the Pumas back near midfield. The Huskies then scored to pull away for a 26-16 victory. Chaparral played that game without quarterback Mitch Glassman, a transfer who was ineligible until the Pumas’ second game. “We’ll find out who’s improved the most in the last 13 weeks,” Centennial Coach Matt Logan said.

The pick: Chaparral.

Northern Division: Ventura St. Bonaventure (12-1) at Moorpark (12-1), 7:30

A St. Bonaventure victory probably would thrust the Seraphs into the state Division III bowl game, but it won’t come easy against Moorpark. The Musketeers have won 11 consecutive games since a three-point loss to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. “It’s a lot like playing ourselves in that they have a great defense and an offense that gets the job done and feeds off the great defense,” St. Bonaventure Coach Todd Therrien said. “It’s our biggest challenge since Long Beach Poly.”

The pick: St. Bonaventure.

Central Division: Upland (10-2) vs. Rancho Cucamonga (12-0-1) at Chaffey College, 7:30

Rancho Cucamonga will attempt to contain Upland quarterback Josh Nunes in this rematch between Baseline League rivals. The Highlanders scored at least 27 points in every game except their 13-2 loss to the Cougars last month. Upland avenged its other league defeat last week during a 42-21 victory over Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos.

The pick: Rancho Cucamonga.

Northwest Division: Gardena Serra (13-0) at Westlake Village Oaks Christian (13-0), 7:30

Oaks Christian has won its last three championship games by 45, 39 and 49 points but figures to face a stiffer test against Serra. Cavaliers defensive back-receiver Robert Woods, receiver George Farmer and defensive end Jason Gibson lead a talented group that will try to keep the Lions from winning a record sixth consecutive section title. “They’re the one team in the division that can play with us,” Oaks Christian Coach Bill Redell said.

The pick: Serra.

Western Division: Manhattan Beach Mira Costa (10-3) at Quartz Hill (12-1), 7:30

Senior running back Chris Loatman will lead Mira Costa in search of its first section title since 1997. The Mustangs have already defeated two Golden League teams in the playoffs, including top-seeded Palmdale, and will try to knock off a third in Quartz Hill, which is making its first title-game appearance.

The pick: Mira Costa.

Southeast Division: Covina Charter Oak (12-0-1) vs. Pomona Diamond Ranch (7-6) at Mt. San Antonio College, 7:30

Diamond Ranch hopes to make its first appearance in a title game a memorable one as it attempts to upset top-seeded Charter Oak.

The pick: Charter Oak.

Southern Division: Laguna Hills (12-0) vs. Lakewood Mayfair (10-3) at Cerritos College, 7:30

Laguna Hills seeks its first section title since 1997. Mayfair last won a title in 2001.

The pick: Laguna Hills.

CITY SECTION

Invitational Division: Arleta (13-0) vs. Los Angeles Franklin (11-2) at East Los Angeles College, 7

Arleta is playing in its second varsity season and is only one year removed from a 3-6 season. Both schools are unbeaten against City competition this year, with Franklin’s losses coming against North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake and Simi Valley Grace Brethren.

The pick: Arleta.
