* No. 7 West Virginia 75, No. 10 Arizona 65: The Mountaineers (25-10) made 11 of 19 three-point attempts in sending the Wildcats (19-15) to a first-round loss for the 10th time in their 24 straight trips to the NCAA tournament. The defeat also ended Arizona’s run of 20 consecutive 20-win seasons. Alex Ruoff made five of seven three-pointers and had 21 points for West Virginia and Darris Nichols made four of seven three-pointers and added 19. Chase Budinger led Arizona with 23 points.

* No. 3 Xavier 73, No. 14 Georgia 61: The Musketeers (28-6) trailed the Bulldogs (17-17) by as many as 11 points in the second half before going ahead for good on a 22-6 run to tie a school record for victories. Reserve Josh Duncan scored 20 points and Derrick Brown added 19 points and 11 rebounds for Xavier, which benefited from a significant discrepancy in free throws -- it went 27 of 33 to Georgia’s three of five. Terrance Woodbury scored 16 points for Georgia.

* No. 6 Purdue 90, No. 11 Baylor 79: The Boilermakers (25-8) built a 19-point halftime lead en route to victory, their 10th straight in the first round since 1993. Keaton Grant scored 17 points and E’Twaun Moore had 16 for Purdue. Happy to abandon its deliberate style to run with the up-tempo Bears (21-11), Purdue reached its season high in points, eclipsing the previous mark of 84 set against Loyola-Chicago in November. Curtis Jerrells had 27 points and eight assists for Baylor.
