Lakers’ Bynum day to day because of right foot injury

Lakers center Andrew Bynum suffered a right foot injury Tuesday against New Jersey and is listed as day to day.

Test results revealed that a small bone spur had chipped off the foot, causing pain and inflammation. The Lakers will update Bynum’s condition before tonight’s game against Dallas.

Bynum is the Lakers’ third-leading scorer, averaging 11.5 points a game. He is the team’s second-leading rebounder, averaging 8.9 a game.

Guard Allen Iverson missed the Detroit Pistons’ practice Thursday and will be fined, according to Coach Michael Curry.

Iverson also will not start tonight against the Milwaukee Bucks and might not play at all, Curry said.

Guard Stephon Marbury will soon either be ordered to stay home indefinitely or be released by the New York Knicks, the New York Daily News reported, citing an unnamed source.

Marbury declined to play Wednesday night against the Pistons, the second time he had done so in six days. The same source told the Daily News that Knicks Coach Mike D’Antoni considered sending Marbury home that night.

Reports: Burke to join Maple Leafs

Brian Burke and the Toronto Maple Leafs have agreed to terms on a deal for the former Ducks general manager to take over as president and GM, the Globe and Mail and the Canadian Press reported.

The Globe and Mail, citing a source familiar with the negotiations, said Burke needs only to sign the deal to make it official, and that an announcement could come today. The Canadian Press said a source, which it didn’t identify, confirmed the two sides had come to terms and that an announcement was expected Saturday.

Burke resigned from the Ducks on Nov. 12.

South Africa’s Tim Clark waited out a three-hour suspension because of a severe thunderstorm to shoot a five-under-par 67 for a share of the first-round lead with Australia’s Scott Hend in the Australian Masters in Melbourne. John Daly shot a 76.

The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed running back Najeh Davenport and released rookie cornerback Roy Lewis. Davenport spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons with Pittsburgh but was released in June. He was re-signed in October but was released again Nov. 8.
