CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / SOUTH LOS ANGELES
At least one robbery suspect was killed, two others were wounded and a fourth was arrested after an officer-involved shooting, police said Friday.
The shooting occurred Wednesday about 3:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of Central Avenue, an hour after a robbery in the 900 block of 49th Street, said Officer Sara Fadden of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Detectives pulled over the vehicle in which the four robbery suspects were traveling, Fadden said. One suspect was shot and killed, while two others were wounded and taken to nearby hospitals. Their conditions were not known. The fourth suspect was taken into custody without further incident, Fadden said.
No officers were injured, she said.
Details about what prompted the shooting or whether the suspects had been armed were not immediately available.
Authorities said the four suspects had been under surveillance by the detectives, who were investigating a series of robberies at several Metro PCS stores in the area.
The names of the victim and suspects, as well as those of the detectives, were not released.
