The Sol beat the Washington Freedom, 3-1, at the Home Depot Center in Carson on Sunday and improved its Women’s Professional Soccer league’s best record to 7-1-3.

The Sol opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Shannon Boxx’s long pass from the left side of the defense found midfielder Aya Miyama in stride in the center of the field.

Miyama played a perfect ball to Camille Abily, who put her shot past Washington goalkeeper Erin McLeod and into the net.

The Sol was quick to regain the lead when Abily scored on a penalty shot in the 60th minute. In the 66th minute, the Sol scored again when Brittany Bock scored on a give-and-go with Marta.

“We really focus on the two-on-one situations in training,” Bock said. “I knew I would get it back if I found Marta.”
