BASEBALL GAME OF THE DAY

Sun Valley Poly (21-13) at Harbor City Narbonne (21-9), today at 3.

Why it matters: It’s the opening round of the City Section Division I playoffs, and No. 13-seeded Poly is hoping its nine-game winning streak in the East Valley League means it can compete against fourth-seeded Narbonne, the Marine League champion. The Parrots have gotten improved pitching from Carlos Lopez and strong hitting from junior infielder Christian Jimenez. The biggest challenge for Poly is going on the road and dealing with All-City shortstop Juan Avila, who’s batting .506 with 12 doubles and five home runs.
