Clutch kicks win it for Warriors

Kevin Robledo made three field goals in the fourth quarter Friday night, but the one he’ll remember most is a 33-yard kick as time expired that lifted host Westlake Village Westlake to a 44-41 intersectional victory over Los Angeles Crenshaw.

“I told my teammates to just get it in the middle of the field for me, and I was confident in my center and my holder,” said Robledo, who converted kicks of 44 and 41 yards on back-to-back possessions to increase the Warriors’ lead to 41-34 midway through the fourth quarter.

“The 44-yarder is the longest I’ve kicked in a game,” he said, “but I made a 55-yarder in practice.”

Ranked No. 22 by The Times, the Warriors (3-0) won despite committing five turnovers.

Quarterback Neil Uskali completed 15 of 30 passes for 241 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Reno Dubreull ran for 104 yards in 10 carries in the first half, but was seldom used in the last two quarters.

Dominique Hatfield had six catches for 134 yards and two touchdowns, including a 19-yard scoring pass that pulled the visiting Cougars (2-1) even at 41-41 with 3:09 left.

Devonte Singleton rushed for 32 yards and three touchdowns in 11 carries, and his six-yard run and two-point conversion pulled Crenshaw within 35-34 with 11:03 left in the fourth quarter.

The Cougars cut their deficit to 35-26 with 1:38 left in the third quarter on a 79-yard touchdown pass from Ajene Harris to Hatfield.

An 85-yard kickoff return by Jalyn Harrison set up a 12-yard touchdown pass from Uskali to Alex Egurbide that gave Westlake a 35-20 lead with 2:48 left in the second quarter.

“We had this game but still have a lot to prove,” said Harris, who completed 21 of 32 passes for 362 yards. “We have to take what we did today and get better. We have to have bigger hearts.”

Crenshaw drove to Westlake’s four-yard line on its first possession of the second half, but Harris’ fourth-down pass was incomplete. The Cougars recovered a fumbled snap at the Westlake 14 three plays later, and this time they capitalized, scoring on Singleton’s two-yard run to cut their deficit to 28-20.

Harris scrambled and found Max Lyons in the end zone for a 24-yard touchdown that pulled Crenshaw to within 28-13 with 3:09 left in the second quarter. Defensive back Andre Kiles set up the score with a 34-yard interception return.

Tanner Gee’s one-yard touchdown run and Uskali’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Egurbide gave the Warriors a 28-7 lead late in the second quarter.
