Gold Standard: Watch: Chat with ‘Mad Men’s’ John Slattery and Talia Balsam

One of the lasting images from the recent “Mad Men” season finale was the sight of Roger Sterling and ex-wife Mona watching the Apollo 11 moon landing with their grandson, Ellery. The boy was sitting on Roger’s lap, wearing an astronaut helmet, which looked almost as cool as Roger’s plaid pants. Almost.

Come to think of it, Mona was wearing plaid too. Might there be a reconciliation when “Mad Men” returns next year for its final seven episodes?

That’s one question we’ll be asking John Slattery and Talia Balsam, the real-life marrieds who play the couple on the show, when they join us for a live chat on Wednesday at 5 p.m. PDT. (Slattery will be with us at The Times, with Balsam taking part via Skype from New York.)

This season gave us a fair amount of Roger and Mona as they dealt with their daughter, Margaret (a.k.a. “Marigold”) running off to a commune, leaving her husband, the hapless Brooks, and son, the aforementioned Ellery, behind. Roger paid Margaret a visit and actually seemed pretty cool with the laid-back vibe of the farm until he caught Margaret sneaking off in the night for a little free love. That’s when his protective-father feelings kicked in and things didn’t end well, for either Roger or his suit.

So we’ll talk about all of that and discuss the couple’s thoughts about the show coming to an end. And we’ll ask your questions too. Just tweet them to us, using the hashtag #asklatimes. See you Wednesday!
